Terrific Turnips By Mrs. Wong’s Students

Did you know that turnips have been around for 4,000 years?  That’s amazingly old!  This is the perfect winter vegetable to add to your diet.  Did you know that 100 calories of turnips can give you 25-40% of your daily fiber?  Also, this superfood is nutritious and has antioxidants. Turnip leaves are an excellent source of vitamins C, E, and K.  This superfood may help fight cancer and inflammation.

This root vegetable is mild in taste and is often added in salads and soups. You can boil, steam, microwave and roast them.

Knock, knock
Who’s there?
Turnip
Turnip, who?
Turnip the heat, it’s cold in here!

Turnips stay fresh in your refrigerator for up to 7 days.  In conclusion, you should try this month’s turnip recipe.   Enjoy!

GREAT Basketball Season

Time is a valuable commodity.  We hope this basketball season has been an opportunity to invest in yourself by learning more about the game of basketball, by learning how to be a good teammate, by learning how to be an impact player on your team, and by taking risks and building connections with your classmates.

A key theme this season was growth and improvement. Over the course of the season, each team incorporated a growth mindset by constantly working to improve their skills, teamwork, and confidence.

Congratulations to all of the players for concluding another successful season.  Thanks for demonstrating your Panther Pride by always representing your school in a positive way!  Along with the players, a huge shout out to all of the parents and fans for your unconditional support of our athletes.

A giant thank you to all of our coaches:
6th grade girls: Jeff Klugman and Doug Farber
6th grade boys: Rich Zamboldi & Rob Cheney
7th grade boys: Chris Ritler / Nathan Sanders / Geoff Gurtner
8th grade boys: Dan Flahavan / Kristin Dragoo

One coach mentioned, "The players really advanced this year.  They were running more complex plays and developed a better sense for the game.  They also really progressed in listening.  They are a very close knit team and enjoy being together.  It has been a pleasure to coach them."

Congratulations to the 6th grade girls who finished first in the second bracket securing 5th place overall in league.

Special Congrats to the 8th grade boys team for finishing first in league out of 12 teams. In the last game of the regular season, they lost to La Entrada by one point but in the first round of the play-offs, they beat them and advanced to the finals. The team concluded the season with a win, beating Beachwood 50-41.

mountain camp

Making the world a better place by positively impacting campers and staff though the camp experience.

For the past four years, Mountain Camp Woodside has partnered with the Stanford University Graduate School of Education and Challenge Success to study how participation in our summer camp provides children with opportunities to develop critical 21st century learning skills. The results have been overwhelmingly positive and confirm what we have always believed - camp provides outstanding opportunities for kids to practice empathy, creative problem solving, personal responsibility, self-control, perseverance, teamwork and communication.

We encourage you to take a few minutes to watch this VIDEO to learn more about why camp is such a powerful experience for children.

Please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions about this research and the impact that it has had on our camp program.  Thank you.
