Spotlight on The Junction Arts Festival

Picture

Clonmel Junction Arts Festival, one of the key arts events of the summer in the South-East, is going ahead – but in a re-worked and re-imagined fashion. With a theme of 2020:Visionaries, the festival will have several placeholder events from 4th – 12th July that will take place in a virtual context, as well as a series of visual arts events in the town itself.

Clonmel Junction Arts Festival started almost 20 years ago as a celebration of touring theatre and live music. Over the years, it has grown into a week-long arts festival where national and international acts share a stage with some of the best local talent.

Arts festivals are a great way to experience theatre, music, art exhibitions and more. In 2020, we are having to re-think how this can be delivered safely, while we support our artists, our production staff and guests.

"All Rise" to Shop Local

Picture

A badly needed injection of €875 million to the local economy is possible if each adult in the country spent just €20 extra a week in small businesses, for the next 12 weeks, the Director of the Small Firms Association (SFA), Sven Spollen-Behrens, said yesterday (Thursday) at the launch of Champion Green.

Supported by Kilkenny Design and Visa, in association with Retail Excellence, Small Firms Association and Chambers Ireland, Champion Green is a consumer marketing initiative backed by a €1M investment to drive support for local business and enterprise.

“This small conscious decision to support local would have a huge, positive impact on jobs and the vibrancy of towns and local communities”, the head of the SFA explained.

“With most businesses now re-opened, we are appealing to consumers to use the coming weeks as an opportunity to focus on shopping local and supporting local businesses, online and in-store, as they recover from the impact of Covid-19."

‘All Rise’ is the compelling cry of the national movement which organisers say will drive the renewal of local communities and reinvigorate enterprise and economic recovery.

Covid19 Restart Grant

Picture

The new €250m Restart Grant provides direct grant aid to micro and small businesses to help with the costs associated with reopening and reemploying workers following COVID-19 closures.

In Tipperary it is being run by Tipperary County Council. The grant will be the amount of a business’ rates assessment for 2019,  subject to a minimum of €2,000 and a maximum of €10,000.

Welcoming the grant, Cathaoirleach Michael Murphy said “this is good news for over 4,000 small businesses in the county who can now access this grant to help defray ongoing fixed costs, e.g. utilities, insurance, refurbishment or for measures to ensure employee and customer safety."
