What To Expect In A Hearing Test

It is recommended by experts in the audiology field to get your hearing tested once every ten years until you cross the age of 50, and once every three years after you have crossed this age

The entire process of testing can take about half an hour, and there is no pain. Adults who undergo these tests will be asked to wear headphones while they listen to tones played at different pitches and volumes in both ears, but one at a time. Your ability to listen to each short burst of sound will show whether you can hear low or high pitched sounds, loud or quiet sounds, and if there is a hearing loss where in the auditory system the problem is coming from.

How to prevent ear discomfort when flying

With the holidays not too far off many people travel for family time, and with air travel, some of us experience discomfort or pain in our ears during flying. It happens mainly during ascent and descent, or if the altitude changes suddenly. It almost feels like the ear is blocked and we cannot hear properly. This phenomenon is commonly called ‘Airplane Ear’. Why does this happen, and what can you do to prevent it?

Oticon hearing aids

1) NEW - Starkey Livio AI Hearing Aid

Livio AI is the first hearing aid with sensors and artificial intelligence built in.

We strive to stay up to date on the latest technology and provide cutting edge options for our patients. Just as the iPhone forever changed what we could do with a phone, Livio AI will forever change how we think of and use hearing aids. Adding sensors and artificial intelligence for the first time ever in a hearing aid is one reason why.

Experts agree that the head — and the ear, specifically — is a much more accurate place to measure our physical activity and monitor our body’s “signals” than on the wrist or in a pocket. By including 3D motion sensors like an accelerometer and gyroscope, Livio AI hearing aids are able to detect movement and gestures and give a more reliable readout of your steps and activity.

Starkey Livio A.I. is not only an amazing hearing aid, but it incorporates AI (artificial intelligence) for things like detecting if the user falls, activating emergency system alerts, and measuring biometric data like heart rate, etc.

Contact us if you would like to learn more about the very impressive Livio AI.

Happy Tinnitus Patient Treats Dr. Rohe to a Flight in a Vintage Plane

Picture

Our patient, Lt. Colonel Ralph "Slick" Aguirre, USAF (Retired) spent years flying planes in the Air Force as well as Southwest Airlines, but the years he spent in aviation started to seriously affect his ears. The situation reached the point where he grounded himself from flying any longer, for fear it was no longer possible without causing further damage to his ears.

Slick arrived at our clinic looking for any possible help. We're happy to report that we have Slick flying again and he couldn't be happier.

Slick graciously offered Dr. Rohe the opportunity of a lifetime to fly in this plane as a way of saying thanks for treating his tinnitus and keeping him up in the air.
