6 Months Until Election Day | |
Half a year isn't very long, and there is a lot of work to do. Today I am stressing that we need to continue the momentum.
(Note: This will hopefully be the longest email I send you for a long while!)
To date I have led and run the campaign which mirrors how I want to act as councillor.
- I have been sharing as many posts on social media as possible to support Community Associations and other groups in Ward 11.
- I have brought together 13 candidates over three dates for Conversations Among Candidates - an initiative to bridge the divide across the city over different wards, issues, and stances, showing my willingness to work with others.
- I've supported the knowledge base of other candidates, freely sharing information and resources.
- I've volunteered and attended Community Association events.
- I've picked up dog poop and have plans to pick up garbage (attend an Earth Week Cleanup - see below).
- I've supported community fundraisers.
- I've taken a principled and pragmatic stance on issues before Calgarians including supporting a downtown strategy, rethinking how established neighbourhoods remain viable for schools and businesses, and talked about how Calgary can be a better city with small but significant changes.
- I've continued to support the innovation economy with volunteer leadership and mentoring.
What can you expect in the next six months? Much more of the above including further in depth blogs on many key issues facing Calgary, more community service, and continued conversations with Ward 11 residents.

We have half a year to secure 12,000 votes. Half a year to secure $40,000 in donations. I'm up to the challenge, are you?
You may be asking - where do those numbers come from?
For voters - that is the number based on historical voter trends for past winning candidates. Voter identification is key to any campaign - can I count on your vote?
Asking for money isn't my strength, but donations from individuals are what helps spread the message, especially during a covid campaign. $40k is the projected costs for marketing (both print and digital), purchase of signage, and expenses related to supporting and rewarding volunteers are covered. It also covers the incidentals like stamps, zoom fees, and website hosting.
If every voter donated $11 we would exceed our fundraising goal by a lot - Did you know, left over funds are donated to local charities?
The goal is to run a lean campaign, focusing on in person engagement whenever possible. I am also mindful of safety and so traditional campaign strategies like door knocking continue to be touch and go, hence the increase in funds needed for marketing.
Your donation is truly appreciated.
