Calais Kitchens

August 2016

It’s hot hot hot in Calais. There’s a heatwave coming but we’re also launching a spicy new appeal. We’re asking our loyal and super-hot supporters to get together with their kids’ school, their church, their running groups, or even the people at the bus stop, to make 1,000 spice bags for us. We put one spice bag in every food parcel and they make a huge difference to the meals people in camp can prepare (the tastiest food we’ve ever eaten!).

They’re quite time-consuming for our small team here in Calais to make so if you prepare and send a thousand spice bags you will save us a lot time and money, and really bring some of your own love and care to the Calais Kitchens table.

Spice Bag Recipe

1 Heaped Tablespoon Salt

1 Heaped Tablespoon Chilli

1 Heaped Tablespoon Paprika

2 x Vegetable Stock Cube

½ Bulb of Garlic

Directions

Place salt and spices in individual sandwich bags before putting all elements together in one bag and tying the top.

If you need any more info on how to assemble these bags or get them to Calais, please email us at [email protected].

There are over 9,000 people in the camp now and by next month we think it will be 10,000. The police have shut down the restaurants and shops in the camp so there is even less food available than before. Both hot food and the food parcels we prepare are in very high demand. We are a small team here in Calais and we really need all the support we can get to keep delivering food parcels to every single home in the camp every week.

In addition to spice bags we are very low on biscuits and tea so if you are coming out soon, please fill your car or van with those items – both are significantly cheaper to buy in England than here in France.

With our love & thanks for your continued support,
