Following on from the fantastic success of the 2017, the 2018 County Tipperary Business Awards were even more sucessful. We added two extra awards and it was a full house at 270 people.
The luminaries of Tipperary business were presented with awards in front of an audience of their peers. Chamber President, T.J. Kinsella said that the ceremony was a celebration of all that's great and good about Tipperary – a great place to live and a great place to do business.

In recognition of their local teams outstanding efforts in the area of CSR over the past 12 months in particular, MSD was honoured as the Best Overall Business of the Year. The giant of the pharma world took the top accolade at the second County Tipperary Business Awards in the Clonmel Park Hotel. It had earlier taken the Best CSR or Contribution to the Community award.

Our Innovation and Education partner, LIT Tipperary, sponsored the Presidential Award for
outstanding Achievement - the winner was Tipperary fashion designer Louise Kennedy.
Chamber President, TJ Kinsella, described Louise as the 'queen of Irish fashion'. The Thurles native has been at the top of the Irish and international fashion trade for thirty five years. She has designed for presidents and royalty, designed the Aer Lingus uniforms and has been recognised with a
special stamp by An Post.
She said she was absolutely thrilled to win the award and to be honoured by the Tipperary business community.“Wherever I go in the world, I am always Tipperary first”, she told the audience of over 250 at the gathering.

Our President congratulated all the winners and nominees and remarked that between them all gathered in the room that evening, they employed over five thousand people.

One of Irelands most popular singer-songwriters Brian Kennedy will be fulfilling a life-long dream when he broadcasts his new show on Tipp FM this October, “Life, Love & Happiness”.

Belfast born Kennedy first came to prominence as a featured singer in Van Morrison’s now legendary blues and soul revue in the late 80’s. He then went on to establish his own solo career with several number one hit singles and albums and represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest. Some of his best-known hits include "Captured","A better man","Life love & happiness", "Put the message in the box", "Get on with your short life" and "You raise me up".

A regular on our TV screens and on the airwaves, Brian, who has always had a great love of radio will now be fulfilling a life-long dream by presenting his own radio show on Tipp FM this coming October. He added “I’ve done a huge amount of radio over the years and It’s something that has always appealed to me. Radio was always and continues to be such a huge part of my life. I’m excited about the show and delighted that I am being given a lot of creative in-put in to the themes and the music that audiences will hear, I hope people enjoy the journey with me”.

Group Programme Controller of Tipp FM, Padraic Flaherty, is equally excited about the new project. “When we first discussed this series with Brian, he was extremely open to all ideas, but he’s a busy artist so it was all about finding windows in his calendar to record. We also felt it was important that he be allowed to put his own stamp on the show bringing his years of experience to the fore. He has a totally natural on-air presence and the ability to draw you in which is a rare talent, it’s a real honour for the Station that he agreed to join us in this unique series”.

In this new show, Brian will be bringing you into his world of music and playing some of his favourite songs and music that you’re guaranteed to love. He’ll also be catching up with some of his musician friends and chatting to celebrities from all over the world.

The new series is being sponsored by Flynn Hotels, Allen Flynn, Managing Director had no hesitation in coming on board as a sponsor. “I have been a fan of Brian’s work for many years and loved the approach of this show in both its themes and audience reach. It was a perfect fit for our hotels and will highlight both the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis and Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny”.

Life, Love & Happiness will begin its first series on Saturday October 20th and will be broadcast from 6-8pm.

Department of Business, Enterprise & Innovation – Brexit Preparedness Notices

Efforts are currently underway to reach an agreement to ensure the withdrawal of the UK from the EU occurs with minimum disruption and to put in place a framework for a future relationship which will enable the closest possible EU-UK relationship post Brexit.

However, the UK’s notification of its intention to withdraw from the EU has created significant uncertainties. The European Commission has therefore sought to clarify what the situation will be for a number of business sectors in the event that no agreement is reached to mitigate the impacts of the UK’s withdrawal.

Notices have been issued in respect of industrial products, company law, trademarks, auditing and import and export licenses as well as a range of other areas. A list of the notices published to date are available to view on the Commission’s website at the following link:

European Commission Brexit Preparedness

The Department of Business, Enterprise & Innovation (DBEI) is encouraging firms to review these notices and consider relevant actions that may be required to mitigate any potential negative impacts that may arise for them in terms of Brexit.

If you have any queries regarding these Brexit Preparedness Notices or the industrial sector which your business operates in, with regards to preparing for Brexit, please contact our EU & International Affairs Manager Emma Kerins, via her email address: [email protected]
