ISLAND TEENS ADVOCAC Y TEAM ITAT NEWSLETTER August 2019 ITAT Goes Back to School Polynesian Days Festivals In August, our Island Teens Advocacy Team participated in the first annual Eagle Mountain Polynesian Days festival! Our island teens helped to make this a tobacco free event. They set up culturally appropriate signs throughout the event grounds stating that smoking and all tobacco products were prohibited at the festival. In addition to setting up the signs, our island teens set up an educational booth. At this booth, they educated festival guests on the dangers of vaping, the ingredients in cigarettes, and the e-cigarette epidemic plaguing youth everywhere. Following the Eagle Mountain Polynesian days festival, ITAT participated in the Thanksgiving Point Polynesian Days Festival over Labor Day weekend. They provided tobacco education, and educated festival guests on e-cigarettes and tobacco dangers. ITAT ended the summer on a great note by working hard in their communities to share tobacco information with their peers and community to educate everyone on the e-cigarette epidemic.
