Join NJTEEA at Ridge High School (Basking Ridge, NJ) to learn about Ridge’s innovative Technology and Engineering Education program. Discover their best practices in the fields of Woodworking, Engineering, Drafting, Robotics, and Design Education and bring some of your own to share. Attendees will have an opportunity to have their questions answered and share what they are doing through hands-on, informative workshops. Come for one specific area or move between all three presentations.

Teaching Design through Robotics

Learn about Ridge’s Robotics Engineering program that covers topics in the Design Loop, RobotC, and Electronics, with the Lego Robot.  Design Briefs that incorporate real world, hands-on, problem solving will be shared and discussed. Attendees will have an opportunity to look at how the Lego Robot works, how it is programmed with both Graphic Coding and RobotC, and see sample student projects that can be incorporated in their classrooms.

Steve will also discuss his Technology Design course, and how he covered different engineering topics such as sustainable energy, materials properties, and hydraulics in a hands-on tool environment.  


Teaching Design through Fine Woodworking

Learn about Ridge’s Woodworking courses that cover furniture design, machinery use, wood properties, joinery, and composite & engineered materials. Tour their state of the art woodworking lab, and learn how they’ve kept woodworking instruction relevant and appealing to students in the 21st century. See a few student projects to show, from a Sketchup 3D model to the complete assembly. Time permitting, Steve will also discuss recent projects, tools, and techniques in the woodshop, including resawing, working with live edge slabs, advanced joinery and dovetail jig setup, and the care and use of fine hand tools.

Teaching Design through Computer Aided Drafting and Architecture

Learn about Ridge's Engineering and Architecture courses, where 3D Printers and an Epilog Laser Engraver are utilized to enhance the curriculum.  Mark will highlight custom student projects and lessons that incorporate the 3D Printer, Laser Engraver, modern and abstract architectural models, concrete testing and more.  Mark will also discuss his hands-on incorporation of real small gas engines into the engineering design course.  During the workshop you will have a hands-on opportunity to engage with the Laser, 3D Printers and small gas engines as well.
