To ensure we can continue to support Tipperary Companies with their Training in 2020 we are seeking training requests from all companies regardless of size or sector in Tipperary for application purposes for funding in 2020.

To prepare for this and put realistic training courses relevant to your companies training needs in the application, I am asking companies to submit a training plan/requests based on business needs for 2020 or similar training delivered successfully in 2019

County Tipperary Chamber is most pleased that the planning permission for a 114 bedroom hotel in Clonmel town centre has been approved. Little did we know when we sat down with Michael Ryan a couple of years ago and looked at his plans, that this would come to fruition so quickly. Acorn Regulatory have been shortlisted in the 2019 Chambers Ireland CSR Awards.  The company has been shortlisted in the SME (Small & Medium Enterprise) category for its work in implementing remote and flexible working arrangements for staff.

The shortlisting, Acorn Regulatory's first in the Corporate Social Responsibility Awards, is a recognition of the company's enlightened approach to remote and flexible working.  In introducing such an initiative, the company has been able to recruit and retain a a large team of professionals in a 'candidate scarce' recruitment market.  Acorn have written about our approach to work in the past here and here.

The UK has been granted an extension on it’s official departure date from the European Union, with the new deadline set for 31 October 2019. If there is no agreement by this new deadline, the UK will leave the EU on 31 October 2019 in a ‘no-deal’ scenario.

• Should the UK Parliament accept the Withdrawal Agreement before the 31 October deadline, the UK will be granted a transition period up until 31 December 2020, with the features of the UK's membership of the EU remaining in place -i.e. the status quo
• In the event of a trade agreement between the UK and EU in the future, following the UK's departure from the EU, preferential movement certificates will likely be required but in Ireland - these documents are issued by Revenue, not Chambers

Chambers Ireland Chief Executive Ian Talbot today (17 June 2019) welcomes the publication of the All Government Climate Action Plan and highlights the need for an all island perspective on how we transition to a low carbon economy.

EU Single-Use Plastic Directive Approved by Council 

On the 21^st May, the European Council adopted the ambitious directive which introduces new restrictions on certain single-use plastic products.

This Directive is part of the EU’s plastic strategy and builds on existing waste legislation but further expands on stricter rules for products and packaging that belong to this cohort of specific plastics. This will see a ban top ten single-use plastic items that account for 70% of the marine litter’s items. These items will include straws, cotton buds, balloon sticks and disposable cutlery to name a few.

Member States under EU law will have 2 years to transpose this directive after the date of entry into force. Therefore, 2021 is set to be the year that sees a  ban on single-use plastic across the EU Member States.

Skillnet Ireland - Statement of Strategy

Skillnet Ireland is the national agency responsible for the promotion and facilitation of workforce learning and this month has launched its formal Statement of Strategy 2020-2024 Consultation process last week and is seeking engagement from all stakeholders and interested parties. This new strategy will seek to articulate a vision for Ireland’s Workforce Development and set out strategic goals and targets for Skillnet Ireland.

Skillnet Ireland is inviting submissions in relation to its new Statement of Strategy 2020-2024. The closing date for submissions is 5pm, Tuesday, 6 August 2019.
