New to us (and you?): Tiger Vines collaboration with Ken Wright and Yamhill-Carlton Highschool (!!!)

Picture

Not only is this sub-twenty dollar wine delicious, but we were completely swayed by the back story. The grapes are grown in the Yamhill-Carlton High School vineyard, which is managed by students. The students also assist in marketing and sales of the wines. All profits go directly to the Yamhill Carlton High School Viticulture program. To shepherd the next generation of viticulturists, Ken Wright guides the program and makes the wines. We are proud to offer the Pinot Noir.

But it must taste good for Park Avenue Wines to stand behind anything. And, well, gosh darn it, the Li'l Tigers struck GOLD with this beautiful 2017 single-A.V.A. wine! Full disclosure, we had no idea what to expect, and didn't think we'd fine one of the most genuine, tasty, aromatic Oregon Pinots of the year in THIS promotional package. The wine is fresh and lively, blasting with aromas of flower petals, potpourri, and crushed raspberries and cherries. But the spicy complexity is where the real fun it. There is a savory, lightly peppery quality to the wine that has us scratching our heads HOW a high school vineyard could turn out one of the most compelling Yamhill-Carlton Pinots we've tasted in some time. It reminds us of Ken Wright's own Willamette Valley bottling ($22.99), but with a lighter hand, less oak barrel influence, and honestly a touch brighter. We have this wine on hand and can still get more. We recommend a case purchase ($17.99 with checkout code 12Bottles), as a dozen will serve you well throughout the rest of this year, served with each season's bounty. Be it veggies, salmon, mushrooms, or meat.

Another success from our friends at Walter Scott! This is a fun-for-summer wine that is sure to please every dry pink wine lover! Fresh, zippy, textural, fruity, and just a touch spicy. The Bois Moi is a blend of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Gamay from the Freedom Hill, Justice, and Arlyn Vineyards. Five months in neutral barrel adds some texture to this otherwise bright and delicious rose. Bois Moi means "drink me!" An imperative that we are all more than happy to follow.

The spectacular 2019 vintage has provided an affordable version of Dundee Hills Pinot Noir comprised of some of the oldest vines in the region. Dark purple in color, wine is deep and attractive with its ruby robe. The nose is tell-tale of the unique soils in the Dundee Hills: Brooding spice and soil notes, some pepper and spice. And the palate ranges from sweet boysenberry to blue plum, black currant, and sweet-bitter Acai berries. There is a sweet-tart balance on the long, savory, compelling finish. There is just a kiss of French oak barrel here which comes across as cherry-vanilla cola in the best way. We think this great wine will drink well beginning yet this year, and all the way through 2028 (or longer, but it won't last that long once you taste it!)
