July 2020

Studio Life

Well that was a classic Juneuary... burrrr!  My frozen fingers are crossed for some sun in July.

Picture

I am pleased with my June glaze firing with most pieces turning out as expected. There's always a few surprises which makes it all the more exciting. The commission Hot Sauce Pot is fun with the addition of a re-purposed silver spoon which I hammered and shaped to fit. Thanks for the order Heidi!

I posted the sunbathing lady in the orange suit on Instagram and my friend and neighbour Kathy had to have it.  Sad to let her go but she's in good company amongst Kathy's treasures collected from around the globe.

I'm also really pleased with the two garden gnomes turned out.  They fit right into the family shot!

I've been plugging away with the figurative floral paintings.  Here's a work in progress which may end up with some collage work added to it.  I'm on the fence with that idea but I'll be working on it in July and will post the finished work.

Despite the mediocre weather we were able to get away on the boat for a week at the end of June. (BTW that's why this newsletter is a little late this month :)  I can't tell you how much the change of scene and break from the daily routine helped me.  I brought my sketch book and travel paints along but didn't end up using them for some reason. BUT.... you'll be pleased to know that I didn't come away from our mini vacation without inspiration!  While puttering around the inlet in our dinghy we spotted this beautiful momma bear with her cub!  I've been studying and painting bears over the past few years and this experience will be the inspiration for another. Proof, once again, that inspiration can present itself when you least expect it.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and creative July.  See you in August!

Shopping Local

See something on-line that you’d like to see in person? Just message, text or call and I can make arrangements with you to come by the studio.  For example, if you let me know what you’d like to see and when you’re coming, I could leave it outside for you and we can chat about it from a safe distance. I don't post all my work on-line so there's lots to see when you visit my studio.

There's always gift cards available!
