Join the Tourism Innovation Lab at the BC Tourism Industry Conference, March 5-7 in Vancouver, being hosted by the Tourism Industry Association of BC. This year's conference theme is titled Tourism For All - Embracing the Journey, and the Lab will once again be hosting a panel session showcasing some of our recent "Spark" winners and their stories from across British Columbia.

Cowichan "Spark" Program Winners

On December 13th, we held the Cowichan "Spark" Program​ Finalists Pitch Session and three inspiring entrepreneurs were selected as the winners. They are:

Jackie Broughton, Jack & Jay Custom Cards & Designs 
Tourism Idea: Jack & Jay Creative Space

Nick Gallant, Island Magic
Tourism Idea:
 Lake Cowichan Bicycle Rentals & Tours

Sarah Campbell, Craft Cannabis Association of BC
Tourism Idea: Building the Cowichan Cannabis Trail

Each will receive $3,000, mentorship, and additional partner support to help them take their tourism initiatives to the next level.

Thank you to our presenting partner Destination BC and collaborative partners Tourism Cowichan and 4TVI for helping us bring this program to life and supporting tourism entrepreneurship in the area.

Indigenous Culinary Tourism Skode Program:
​Application Deadline January 15

Indigenous Tourism Ontario (ITO) and the Tourism Innovation Lab have launched the 5th edition of the Skode Program, this year with a focus on developing Indigenous culinary tourism in the province. 

We are looking for Indigenous culinary tourism ideas that will:
☑️ Celebrate and promote traditional Indigenous foodways
☑️ Inspire visitors to explore Indigenous food and culture
☑️ Offer high quality, authentic Indigenous culinary experiences
☑️ Involve collaborations and partnerships with other Indigenous-led businesses and/or organizations

Examples include: New Indigenous food tours, Indigenous culinary experiences, Indigenous food markets, Indigenous food pop-ups, Indigenous restaurants/cafes, Indigenous food catering, and Indigenous food events and festivals.

Winning Skode pitch finalists will receive mentorship and a $5,000 non-repayable financial contribution to advance their Indigenous culinary tourism businesses and initiatives. Plus a chance to compete for a $20,000 grand prize!
