A Message from Bill Yacopucci -

Chair of the Board of Directors...

October is here. There is a chill in the air...and a makerspace on the horizon!  We have targeted January 1st to open our doors in downtown Franklin.  However, you don't have to wait until then to get involved.  We estimate that we will be able to access the building in November & December to start setting up.

Just a few areas where you can help:

  • Painting the walls,
  • Moving equipment and supplies,
  • Setting up the various shops.

Having particular skills is helpful, but not necessary.  A makerspace is a place to learn and do, after all.  Many of our members are skilled craftsmen who can get you going and show you what needs to be done.

We just put our new Halloween Display Contest online!!!

For those who remember last year's Holiday Lights Contest, put on by the Franklin Outing Club, that was started by Bill Y.  We've talked it over and the Outing Club is going to continue the Christmas tradition and Franklin Gear is going to start our own for Halloween!

Check it out and get in on it!

Monthly Board Meeting

Come visit us at The Franklin Cafe (366 Central Street Franklin) on October 7th at 7pm.  We met some great community members last month; we'd like to meet you too!

Note:  This is an after-hours event at the Cafe, So don't be discouraged if you don't see the OPEN flag.  Trust me we'll be there to welcome you in!

Membership has its Privileges...

... Like paying the rent ;)

As we move closer to opening we need our supporters to start becoming members!

Grants will cover capital expenses (equipment) & initial setup work in our space (hanging lights and other electrical work, building walls and the like) - often called leasehold improvements.  But grants don't cover the cost of rent. We can cover a few months, thanks to our initial donors, but not much more.

Become a member now and the clock won't start running on your membership until we open!  Check out the various memberships we offer:

Jim Jones

  • Woodworking
  • Machine Shop
  • Educational Outreach

Where to begin with Jim?  His bio could fill a website. Jim’s long career in home & commercial building began in the 1970s - working for his father’s company G.J. & Sons.   There Jim’s passion for building and making was born.

Jim is the owner of J. Jones Building & Remodeling Consulting. He is also a Realtor with Whitewater Realty in Tilton.

Jim's passion goes well beyond helping homeowners define their vision.  His service to the community has, and continues to be, tremendous.

One of our makerspace board members, Jim is also the current Co-President of the Franklin Outing Club (operators of the non-profit Veterans Memorial Recreation Area). Jim has also served several chapters of the New Hampshire Builders Association, including time as a chapter president.

Whether it is the Boy Scouts (BSA) or The Webster Lake Fishing Derby, Jim had helped organize and execute countless projects.

A dedicated mentor, Jim has coached football & lacrosse at Tilton School.  He also coached women’s basketball at Tilton for 15 years!

Why has Jim joined us at Franklin Gear?

Jim’s vision is to build a place where community members can find an undiscovered passion, better themselves, learn some trades, maybe start a business.

He envisions old timers enjoy their hobbies while sharing their experience with younger generations.

Jim knows how to get things done! He is our liaison between possibility and reality!
