I felt well supported by Françoise who made the whole exercise pretty effortless. She is kind and thoughtful. Frank Viva Self Portrait What were your favorite books growing up? From early childhood, Go Dog Go! was a favorite as well as all the Doctor Seuss books. Later, comic books and science fiction novels were my focus. During my teen years I read classics from authors like Dickens and Atwood. Leonard Cohen's lyrics have remained important to me since then. Now I just watch CNN. Have you put anything from your own life into the book? A true love of pizza, including thick, thin, crisp, authentic, frozen, fresh, New York, Chicago and Neapolitan. Warning: never inject tasteless white cheese into my crust or I will write a tell all book about you. Have you received any feedback? I have only heard from my closest friends and family. Many have said that it's a "tour de force" and a "remarkable breakthrough." My auntie G.G. said that the book was "heavy with the accumulated dust of centuries of civilization." My eldest daughter thinks it's "as hot as the surface of Io!" My youngest daughter characterized the book as "potentially explosive." I would happily tell you what my wife said, but I would hate to toot my own horn. Is there anyone you wish you could collaborate with? They're all dead. What are you working on right now? A book about divorce and a book about an art museum and I'm designing some new plywood bookshelves. —For Teachers and Home Schoolers— Download the "Volcano" lesson plan developed by Richard Kutner who heads our TOON Educational Team.
