Autumn News

Hi everyone, I hope you have been keeping well and managing to fight off those winter bugs as the weather gets colder!

My little clinic has certainly been getting busier as people are feeling a bit run down and are noticing more aches and pains as the temperature drops.

I always find Echinacea (see lovely floral image below) and high dose Vitamin C very good for staving off a cold if I catch it early enough.

Craniosacral therapy provides immune system support and revitalization through release of fascial and bony restrictions throughout the skull and body. This can improve circulation, digestion, detoxification and organ function. Cranial techniques calm and balance the central nervous system, creating a relaxation response allowing the body to heal itself.

Give me a call or message to make an appointment if you need an immune boost and are feeling a little below par with the change of season.

Refer a friend during June or July and receive 10% off your next Craniosacral Therapy session! Just ask them to mention you when they book their appointment.

Chi-kung Training

I'm really looking forward to attending a Chi-kung (also spelt Qi-Gong) workshop in July as part of my PD this year. Chi-kung is an ancient Chinese style of exercise similar to Tai Chi, which was kept secret until fairly recently and only known about by Chinese royals and aristocrats as the ultimate way to keep healthy, happy and youthful (sounds good doesn't it!).

Many Craniosacral Therapists and other body and energy workers practise this form of exercise as it helps them become more skilful in the work and to stay strong and healthy.

I plan to become accredited to teach Chi-kung in the future but until then our wonderful local teachers Tamara at smilingdragon and Lauren at onpointpilates offer fantastic classes which include some Chi-kung along with Tai Chi, Pilates and Yoga. Give the classes ago and keep your spine super healthy!

Warming Recipe: Easy Kumara and Apple Soup

I always like getting a nice (preferably easy) recipe in a newsletter so I thought I'd include one for you today! This is a delicious and filling soup which I got from my wonderful local organic produce supplier, Pauline at Holistic Toolbox

Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 brown onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, crushed

3 teaspoons curry powder

1.2kg orange kumara, peeled, cut into 2cm cubes

4 to 5 cups chicken or vegetable stock

1 large granny smith apple, peeled, grated

1/2 cup coconut cream toasted sourdough bread, to serve

Method

Step 1: Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes or until tender. Add curry powder and cook, stirring for 1 minute or until aromatic.

Step 2: Add Kumara, 4 cups stock and apple to curry mixture. Stir to combine and bring to boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer partially covered for 30 mins or until Kumara is tender. Remove from heat and stand for 5 mins.

Step 3: Puree soup in small batches until smooth. Return soup to low heat and stir in coconut cream. Heat for 8-10 mins but don't boil. Add more stock if soup is too thick. Season with pepper and serve with toasted bread.
