Team dB’s Karel Simbwae and Eugene Thomas received basic first aid training presented by EMTSS during April. Focusing on the responsibilities of the first aider, the training included safety and scene management and how to call for help. “What struck me was how one shouldn’t just jump in and help, but first assess the situation carefully,” says Eugene. “I found the information about CPR most interesting,” adds Karel. “It is very good to have this information – you hope you’ll never need it, but will be glad one day when you do.”

Safety & Security Expo

The first ever Namibia Safety & Security Expo took place at the Windhoek Show Grounds during April, and some members of Team dB attended it to sharpen their awareness and to learn more about current trends in this field.
“It was nice to be surrounded by people who take health and safety very seriously just as I do. I enjoyed talking to each and every exhibitor and hearing what they have to offer,” says Phillipina Awoses, Team dB’s OSH (Occupational Safety & Health) Champion.
“I was intrigued by the emphasis on cyber security. This is a very topical issue and NUST did a great job explaining its ramifications in Namibia,” enthuses our Audio Visual Department’s Hendrik Vries.

Ladies Inspiration

Picture

All the Team dB ladies got to experience the thrilling sensation and responsibility of being in control of a moving vehicle when they went go-karting recently. Nerves and emotions were all over the place, but none of them backed out.
“It was my first time driving anything. It was so nice!”, says Leena Tjithunga.  “I loved it, extra special because it was my birthday,” adds Karaa Kakero Mungendje. “When are we coming back? I want to do it again!” asks Phillipina Awoses.
Kudos to JD Januarie, Jacqueline van Zijl and Laimi Thomas for clocking the best lap times.

Meet the Team

Niko Nkandi is a member of our Staging & Structures team. “I grew up in Ondangwa in northern Namibia, but came to Windhoek in 2008 looking for work.  I did all sorts of jobs like laying interlocks and putting in ceilings, because all I knew was how to work with my hands.  When a neighbor told me about a temporary job at dB Audio, I went, not knowing what it was about.  But I liked it and because I work hard, I was asked to stay on. I have two children, a boy of 12 and a girl of 4, and I want to teach them that only hard work and honesty will get you somewhere in life.”
