Happy Summer Everyone!
The JEA is hoping you are having a wonderful summer full of trail rides, shows, camps, lessons and fun! We are continuing our work on the connector trail with the incredible help of the Back Country Horsemen and our wonderful volunteers. There are lots of steps to take yet, but we are on the right path!

We are in need of board members to keep making this dream a reality. We need your help! Our board meets once a month and the time commitment is a few hours each month! We have several open positions and would love to chat with you if you are interested! For more details please email Raina Baker at [email protected].

We look forward to connecting with you all! Happy Trails!

Yours in Service,

Park update

Now that the Connector Trail has been roughed out, we are working on the finishing details to align with the WA State Forestry Guidelines for trails, as per the requirement on our CUP. We have started on the permit and need to fulfill the requirements, depending on time and material costs we hope to complete this phase by the end of summer. This is the trail that will run along CG Road and will lead to the horse park, once you cross CG road at Crutcher. We are responsible for the signage as well as the creation of the trail itself.

Next up is coordination with the county to set up the safe crossing of Cape George Road. We are responsible for overseeing the creation of a trail along Crutcher, the county will be creating the actual trail crossing from the corner of Crutcher across CG road – similar to the crossing currently on Discovery Road near Snagstead.

Once the Connector Trail (all the segments) is complete it’s all systems go and we can safely traverse from the Larry Scott Trailhead to the park without the added stress of playing frogger across this busy road.

Jefferson County Fair, August 8th - 11th, 2019

Visit us at the Jefferson County Fair. We will share a booth with our esteemed friends, the Buckhorn Chapter of the Back Country Horseman of Washington (BCHW). We all have shared interests in the Horsepark, including keeping trails open for all users; educating horse users in Leave-No-Trace practices, preserving our trails and more. Holler if you'd like to participate in any way, perhaps to decorate the booth or help man it, note a 2 hour time commitment is required. Email: [email protected]

Summer Event - Cancelled. Awe..
Originally, we thought to host a scavenger type event at Anderson Lake State Park in July; Anderson Lake has all the safe and proper facilities already in place. Sadly, time was not on my side this summer which was not anticipated. Just like in horse training, you need to respond to the horse in the present moment.

We can pivot on our hind quarters, right!  I thank you for your patience. The awesome progress made on the connector trail will prove rather fruitful. We will leverage the connector trail project completion to truly celebrate another JEA accomplishment -- holding our trail event at our own Horse Park! As you read about the progress made on the connector trail in this newsletter, I am sure you can appreciate the many steps and partnerships we are building to complete this large effort, it's simply going to take time.

Thanks to the Connector Trail sub-committee again, including our Buckhorn Chapter of BCHW rallying to get the trail staged and ready for the permit phase. They have dedicated hours and worked really hard to make this happen for all of us.

Business Membership
Our Resource Page is very popular with visitors every month. Do you have a service that you would like to market to our horse community and beyond?  Become a business member for just $50.00 per year!

Individual Membership
We need your help in lots of different ways - but the easiest way to help, is to become a member. Our operating costs are low, but keeping up with the website, insurance, and annual taxes and fees are always a must on our list.

Additionally, we are working towards raising the funds to finish the development of the connector trail which connects the Larry Scott Trail to the park. One of the few milestones left, before we can officially open the gates for all to use. Again, your donation is greatly appreciated.
