SAVE THE DATE! 2019 Ormondale farmers' market

Ormondale’s seventh annual Farmers’ Market is approaching in the middle of this month. Plan to be at Ormondale’s bus stop area on FRIDAY, MAY 17th from 4:00-6:00 to shop for plants, crafts, garden products, bathroom botany, food, and fun items.  All proceeds will go towards maintaining and growing our school garden.

Does your family or child have a desire to sell homemade wares, crafts, or goods right from your own garden?  Why don’t you rent a booth at our event? All we ask is for you to make a donation to our garden. If anyone wants to sell items from their own garden and have a booth, please contact any second grade teacher so that we reserve you a space.  It only happens once a year, so make sure you plan ahead and mark your calendars!

Fantastic Fava Beans

By Ms. Grech’s Second Grade Class

Introducing the FANTASTIC FAVA BEAN!  Did you know that eating this superfood has many health benefits including cancer prevention, lowering blood pressure and it also is high in vitamin C, protein, and fiber?

This vegetable has multiple names including Horse Beans and Broad Beans.  It loves to grow in temperatures from 40-70 degrees. It takes only 75-90 days to grow and mature.

Here’s a joke for you.  What kind of vegetable wears metal shoes?

Answer: A Horse Bean.

This month’s recipe is a Mexican Fava Bean Soup.  We hope you can try this recipe at home. Click on the link below to get the recipe.

Making the world a better place by positively impacting campers and staff though the camp experience.

For the past four years, Mountain Camp Woodside has partnered with the Stanford University Graduate School of Education and Challenge Success to study how participation in our summer camp provides children with opportunities to develop critical 21st century learning skills. The results have been overwhelmingly positive and confirm what we have always believed - camp provides outstanding opportunities for kids to practice empathy, creative problem solving, personal responsibility, self-control, perseverance, teamwork and communication.

We encourage you to take a few minutes to watch this VIDEO to learn more about why camp is such a powerful experience for children.

Please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions about this research and the impact that it has had on our camp program. Thank you.
