AUGUST UPDATES

Greetings from the Community Foundation!

It’s hard to believe September is nearly upon us. And that means the hectic fall season is just around the corner. The team at the Community Foundation is here to support you as you help your clients update their charitable giving plans. The next few months may be very busy as clients reach out with questions about possible tax law changes and how charitable giving can fit into estate and financial planning strategies.

We hope to offer unique insights and a break from this busy season at our Trusted Advisors Seminar and Social on October 9, featuring Christy Boysen, MA, CFRM, FCEP of Apex Legacy Consultants. This one-hour seminar will go in-depth on a selection of charitable giving tools based on the unique and often varied assets of your clients. Following this brief workshop, network with colleagues and fellow professionals in a relaxed atmosphere over drinks and light hors d'ouevres. We hope to see you there!

As always, thank you for the opportunity to work with you! We are honored to help you serve your charitable clients and we appreciate the opportunity to do so.

RECENT NEWS AND UPDATES

Stay up-to-date on benefits, opportunities, and changes that may impact your clients.

Over the years, you’ve no doubt experienced a wide range of what clients perceive as “wealthy.” You’ve likely also observed that clients have different assumptions about what it takes to be a “philanthropist.” The interplay between a client’s perception of personal wealth and charitable giving capacity presents interesting opportunities for client engagement.

You’re certainly aware that gifts of real estate to a fund at the Community Foundation, just like gifts of other long-term capital assets, can be extremely tax-efficient.

FUND TYPE HIGHLIGHT: CORPORATE FUND

A corporate fund can be a donor-advised, field of interest, unrestricted, or designated organization fund created to facilitate corporate philanthropy. If you or your client own a business, have substantial holdings in closely held stocks, or are charged with managing a corporation’s charitable giving, giving through the Community Foundation offers tax advantages, eliminates record keeping and administrative hassles, and gives your business access to the guidance of our professional staff for both grant making and gift planning.

  • Donate cash or other business assets. Contributions are tax-deductible and may qualify for North Dakota's 40% Endowment Tax Credit. Plus, donors can make additional donations at any time. Making larger donations in more profitable years helps to reduce dependence on annual cash flow to sustain corporate giving levels.
  • Decide which requests for support to fulfill and recommend those grant recipients. Or, allow the Foundation to assist in setting up your own grant program, managed by the Foundation.
  • The Foundation handles all administrative paperwork, legal and audit fees, and correspondence with grant recipients.
  • Our efficient administration of your giving program means more of your charitable resources are directed into the community.
