ITAT Students from WJHS presented at a junior high about the dangers of vape and tobacco.
March has been a productive month for ITAT! Our ITAT students prepared presentations to give at three junior high schools and one elementary. They shared their information with teachers and staff first, then presented to students at assemblies.
We're proud of the important work our students are doing by educating elementary and middle school students. The CDC reported that over the last decade, the average age of adolescents trying vape has decreased 2 months each year. At a peak of e-cigarette use in 2019, adolescents were trying their first e-cigarette at an average age of 13 years old (CDC, 2022). The work of ITAT students educating their younger peers on the dangers of vaping is so important so that they never start vaping.

This month, Queen Center also held a focus group with 6 Pacific Islander students across Utah and Salt Lake County. We were able to learn from these students about the severity of vaping at high schools, how they cope with mental health challenges, and how they want to see resources improve. These students shared important insights on how we can better serve our Pacific Islander community.
