Reflecting upon 2019-20

The end of the school year coincides with the end of GUB's/the University's fiscal year, so it is the perfect time to reflect upon the previous 12 months.  And what a year it's been!  In spite of all the challenges, we have much to celebrate when it comes to elevating the voices of Boulder's young people and sharing our lessons learned abroad.  GUB worked with 856 local children and youth, and our team of only 2 part-time staff plus our trusty CU student interns and volunteers contributed a remarkable 3,654 hours to GUB work!  We shared our model with almost 2,000 people worldwide through lectures, webinars, trainings, and keynotes.  We hope you enjoy reading the stories behind the numbers in our new, GUB 2019-2020 Annual Report.

Paola Garcia Barrón is serving as one of GUB's first Youth leaders.

"As I continue to grow, my passion for engagement and advocacy in the community does as well. Being able to work with GUB, a program whose purpose is to build a “child- and youth- friendly city,” excites me. I have found a place were I can express myself, engage with the community, and let voices of all ages be heard when building the future of our community."

We are pleased to announce the creation of a new program: Growing Up Boulder Youth Leaders!

We have engaged 3 Leaders so far; two are in high school, and the third is starting at CU this fall.  We will feature leaders in each of our upcoming newsletters.

GUB Youth Leaders will:

  1. Represent GUB to their peers and the community
  2. Serve as members of the GUB Executive Committee
  3. Plan and facilitate community engagements
  4. Serve as "young community connectors"
  5. Connect their schoolwork and passions with GUB's work
  6. Collaborate with GUB to elevate both GUB and their own social media platforms.
