Dear Ridgewood Crew Families,

With the Fall Season in Full Swing, we thought this would be a good time to let all our Ridgewood Crew Families know “Why We Fundraise”.

As we all know or have figured out, Crew is an expensive sport. We are a relatively young team and although only Ridgewood HS students may join Ridgewood Crew, we do not receive any funds from the Board of Ed or the Ridgewood School District. We subsist on funds collected through our dues, which thanks to fundraising efforts have not increased in the last few years, also contributions, fundraising, and not mention the volunteering of our dedicated Crew families. The money collected pays our coaches, buses to regattas, regatta fees, boat storage at PPRA, repair of equipment, RHS - for workout space and storage of equipment, and unisuit fees for freshman, to name just a few. Our largest expense by far is equipment – that means boats.

Our rowers will be competing against teams that are more established and therefore have better equipment. We want to give our rowers the same advantages as those teams. Since we are a young team, our equipment is sometimes not on par with the more established teams. New boats can cost upwards of $40,000.00 depending on the size. As Boris has said, “We have great rowers with the hearts of champions that row their best to win!” We want to give them the best chance of winning. Therefore, we fundraise. Our hope is to keep dues as low as possible, purchase better equipment that helps us be more competitive, keep our rowers fed and hydrated during regattas, and keep our exceptional coaches working for Ridgewood Crew.

So please, consider participating in the few fundraisers we plan throughout the year so we can reach our goal of giving our rowers – our children - that winning edge.

Please join Ridgewood Crew and Frederick Wildman and Sons for a wine tasting and fine dining night with America's most famous and entertaining wine teacher, Kevin Zraly, in the beautiful environs of Chakra restaurant. The evening includes passed hors d'oeuvres, champagne, a chef curated 3 course dinner and wine pairings in conjunction with learning about and tasting a variety of fine wines from Frederick Wildman and Sons wine merchants.

We're hoping to raise much needed funding through this event so please, please pass the word to your friends and neighbors. There’s no need to have a connection to Crew, a craving for good food, delicious wine, and a desire to have a good time are the only prerequisites required.

All wines sampled will be available for purchase in time for the upcoming holidays and additional silent auction items will be offered. Proceeds of the evening will help fund the Ridgewood High School Crew team. We look forward to seeing you then!

Ridgewood Crew is happy to offer Grocery Gift Cards as well as Holiday Gift Cards.

For the Grocery Gift Cards, the participating grocery stores are, Kings, ShopRite, Stop & Shop, and Whole Foods. The Grocery Cards come in $100 increments and Ridgewood Crew receives 5% back!

For the Holiday gift Cards, there are many stores to choose from with the percentage coming back to Ridgewood Crew as high as 15 % for some stores! Purchase them for yourself or with the Holidays approaching, why not give them as gifts or even shop with them!!

All cards work like a debit card so you don’t have to spend the entire card in one visit to the store and the cards have no expiration date. The best part is you get to spend the full amount of the card while the companies donate the percentage to Ridgewood Crew. If every family purchased just two cards a month, Ridgewood crew could garner as much as $5000.00 by years end. It is great to earn money for items that we all need to buy anyway.
