A RIVER ODYSSEY AT JANICE MASON ART MUSEUM

Every now and then, it’s good to be in the spotlight! The small but elegant art museum in Cadiz, Kentucky offered that opportunity in a 6-week long exhibition of my artwork. Last Saturday afternoon, a reception showcased over 50 of my paintings during a packed turnout. I even saw an old childhood friend for the first time in 60 years! Thanks to all who braved the winter weather, I can now afford to purchase more brushes and paint. Janice Mason Art Museum can be found at 71 Main Street, Cadiz. Doors are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 1-4. In inclement weather, call ahead 270-522-9056 or go to www.jmam.org

I painted this scene late last summer for the January art show in Cadiz. While much of the nation is covered in snow, it’s apropos. Lunch Break – Elk at Land Between The Lakes.

You may have heard the expression, Artistic License. I used that to accentuate movement by inserting geese flying over the new bridge spanning Cumberland River/Lake Barkley just west of Cadiz, Kentucky. Headed For Shelter depicts Canada geese flying for cover to evade the approaching storm. The bridge and landscape are real. The rest is Artistic License.

A visit to Apalachicola (FL) last March provided the backdrop for this scene, Ospreys Over Apalachicola Bay. The finished 22x30 oil on canvas is going to “Apalach” later this month to be shown at a local art gallery.
